Prerequisite: CANSail 1 required. Sailors under 100 lbs & 64 in recommended for the OPTI Sailboat
Sessions: Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm for 1 week

Perfect for young sailors who are ready to enter the world of competitive sailing. Through a mix of drills, lessons, and practice races, sailors learn the rules of racing, how to navigate a course, and key strategies for fast starts and quick mark roundings. This course is the perfect introduction to the thrill of racing and a look at what being part of the Opti Race Team is all about!

SESSION 1 - OPTI LTR
Age: 12-18
Prerequisite: CANSail 1 required
Sessions: Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm for 1 week

Designed for sailors who have completed CANSail 1 and are ready to compete. Sailing with a partner, sailors learn essential racing concepts through a mix of fun drills, tactical lessons, and practice races. The course focuses on the rules of racing, executing fast starts, and mark roundings. This is the ideal stepping stone for those interested in joining the 420 Race Team!

SESSION 1 - 420 LTR
Age: 14-18
Prerequisite: CANSail 2 required. Sailors over 115 lbs recommended for the LASER Sailboat.
Sessions: Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm for 1 week

Designed for the independent sailor ready to transition into the world of competitive sailing. This course focuses on the fundamentals of racing for solo sailors, covering racecourse navigation, basic rules, and strategies for fast starts and mark roundings. Through tactical drills and practice races, sailors build the confidence to compete, providing the perfect stepping stone for joining the Race Team!

SESSION 1 - LASER LTR
Age: 16+ or 12+ with a parent/guardian in the class
Prerequisite: CANSail 1 required
Sessions: Once a week for 4 weeks, 3 hours per session
This intermediate course is for sailors ready to trade casual sailing for the thrill of racing. You’ll learn race tactics & starts, and the rules of racing. Working in 420 or Laser sailboats, you'll sharpen your decision-making and boat handling on the race course. A great introduction to racing for our Spring and Summer dinghy racing series!

Prerequisite: CANSail 1 or equivalent experience required
Sessions: Wednesday evenings from May to September
This is a competitive, non-instructional racing series for all sailors who want to develop their skills through frequent, organized racing. Focus is on getting the most amount of races in a lively and supportive environment. There is no formal instruction; sailors must be able to rig their own boats and sail upwind/downwind. The program runs a series of races, offering sailors the chance to refine their tactics, starting technique, and boat speed against a competitive fleet. Sailors can participate in their choice of the following dinghies: Optimist, ILCA 6 (Radial), ILCA 7 (Full), 420, or FJ.

Race Day Schedule:
5:00 pm - Gear pickup from JR Room
5:15 pm - All boats must be launched off the dock
5:30 pm - First race Start
8:00 pm - No races to be started
(subject to change with daylight)
Scoring
The RYA Portsmouth Handicap system will be used to ensure fair racing for all types of boats. Each race will have individual results posted, as well as the monthly series results.

For competitive sailors looking to push their limits, our year-round program offers high-performance coaching, advanced tactical training, and the opportunity to represent the club at regional and provincial regattas. This is the premier environment for athletes aiming to achieve their CANSail 5 and 6 certifications while mastering the fine details of boat speed, strategy, and sportsmanship.

Designed for sailors who want to transition their skills to a larger, more stable sailboat. The focus is on crew coordination, spinnaker handling, and advanced race strategy. Sailors will develop high-level teamwork and communication skills while executing complex maneuvers under pressure. As part of the team, you will participate in weekly club racing at SNSYC, with additional opportunities to compete in local and regional keelboat regattas!

This fee secures coaching support for sailors attending regattas. It is separate from the event's registration fee and is required for each sailor attending a regatta. The Coaching Fee covers the costs associated with attending regattas, including:
